Jon Claytor
life's little soliders.

open / Saturday May 27 – six to eight pm
close / July 1

Harvey Levine Gallery is pleased to announce life's little soliders, an exhibition of new drawings by Jon Claytor.

Claytor's work blurs the line between abstract and figurative painting and drawing. He depicts people unknowingly revealing their desires, fears and hopes through slight gestures and body language. Claytor often repaints a piece again and again until he finds an ideal balance of texture and color.

“A stillness pervades this work. In part, it's due to Claytor's remarkable control over what he's doing," said Peter Goddard, critic for the Toronto Star, of Claytor's 2002 exhibition Hope Shines Through Painted Desolation. "These paintings are among the most finished 'unfinished'-looking paintings you'll find."

Claytor views his work as "really, really short movies. There isn't a story necessarily, but a moment in an unfolding event with real characters."

life's little soliders. will be on view at Harvey Levine Gallery, 5797 Washington Blvd. in Culver City from May 27 through July 1. There will be an opening reception on Saturday, May 27 at 6:00 p.m.
